SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A 10-year-old has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting another 10-year-old, who died on Saturday. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred after the young boy retrieved a gun from his father’s vehicle and shot the victim once. The shooter then fled to a nearby apartment, where authorities later apprehended him.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene following a call about the shooting, they found the victim unresponsive and bleeding from his head and neck. Despite deputies performing CPR and the juvenile being taken to a hospital, he was later pronounced deceased.
In addition to the arrest of the 10-year-old suspect, his father, Arkete Davis, 53, was also apprehended and faces felony firearms charges, including carrying a stolen, loaded firearm in a vehicle, child endangerment, and accessory after the fact. The father is being held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 3.
The tragic incident has shocked the local community and raised questions about access to firearms by minors. The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The identities of the juveniles involved have not been disclosed due to their ages.
