AMARILLO, Texas — The city has experienced its first homicide of the year following the tragic shooting of a 15-year-old girl, prompting the arrest of two teenagers. Authorities announced that Jeremiah Luke Matthews and Korde Matthews, both aged 17, face serious charges related to the incident that unfolded early Thursday morning.
The Amarillo Police Department reported responding to a shooting around 1:10 a.m. in the 6000 block of Westwind Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. She was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Jeremiah Matthews has been charged with manslaughter, while Korde Matthews is facing a charge of tampering with evidence. Both have been processed and are being held at the Potter County Jail.
