Piedmont, Ala. — A tragic collision at an ATV park on Saturday claimed the lives of two adults and injured seven children, marking a sobering event at Indian Mountain ATV Park. The incident occurred in the afternoon when two vehicles, carrying a total of 11 people, collided along a trail, highlighting the risks associated with off-road recreation.
Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald confirmed that the victims were believed to be a married couple. One person died at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries after being airlifted to a local hospital. Emergency responders faced challenges accessing the remote area, where the crash transpired around 3:45 p.m. local time.
Three of the injured children were also airlifted for treatment, with one listed in critical condition. The remaining four were transported by ambulance, emphasizing the severity of the situation. Local authorities indicated that there were nine individuals in one ATV while the second vehicle carried just two passengers. Remarkably, neither of the occupants in the second ATV sustained injuries.
After the accident, the ATV with the larger group traveled approximately 150 feet before rolling over and hitting a tree, according to reports from the scene.
