Piedmont, Alabama — A tragic accident at Indian Mountain ATV Park on Saturday afternoon resulted in the deaths of two adults and injuries to several children. The incident, which involved a collision between two all-terrain vehicles, has prompted an investigation by local authorities.
Emergency services received calls about a serious accident shortly after 3:45 PM. According to Cherokee County officials, one ATV with nine occupants crashed into another vehicle carrying two people. The collision caused one vehicle to overturn and strike a tree. First responders arrived promptly, but one adult was pronounced dead at the scene. A second adult succumbed to severe injuries shortly thereafter after being transported to a hospital in Birmingham.
Among the injured were seven children, aged between 1 and 12 years. Four of these children were taken to Atrium-Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia, for urgent care. The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency noted that the adults who lost their lives were residents of Rome, Georgia.
Officials expressed their condolences and emphasized the seriousness of the situation. “This is a tragic accident and highlights the importance of operating recreational vehicles safely,” said Sheriff Shaver in a statement. “It’s crucial to adhere to safety guidelines and the vehicle’s passenger limits.” Director Rogers reiterated the need for safety while using ATVs and urged operators to wear restraint systems.
