Tragedy: Funeral Details Released for Kayla Blake and Kennedi McWhorter, Victims of Rowan County Double Murder

Morehead, Ky. — Community members are coming together to remember Kayla Blake, 37, and her daughter, Kennedi McWhorter, 13, who lost their lives in a tragic double murder last week in Rowan County. Blake, a Morehead native, was dedicated to her nursing career, specializing in addiction recovery. Graduating from East Carter High School, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Her colleagues describe her as a compassionate professional whose commitment significantly influenced the lives of those she cared for at the Addiction Recovery Institute of America.

As a devoted mother, Blake balanced her work with a nurturing spirit at home, fully engaging with her children. Kennedi, a seventh-grader at Rowan County Middle School, shared her mother’s passion for building strong relationships. An enthusiastic softball player, she was known for her competitive nature and the friendships she formed with teammates throughout her school and travel leagues.

Visitation services for Blake and McWhorter are set for Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and again Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. A funeral service will follow the visitation on Saturday at noon, as loved ones gather to pay their respects and celebrate the lives of two remarkable individuals taken too soon.
