Newark, Del. — Funeral arrangements have been made for Delaware State Police Corporal Grade One Matthew T. “Ty” Snook, who lost his life in the line of duty during a tragic incident at a Department of Motor Vehicles office on December 23, 2025.
A public viewing is scheduled for Monday, January 5, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center on the University of Delaware campus. Following the viewing, a pass and review will take place, featuring uniformed emergency services personnel in honor of Snook’s service before transitioning into a memorial service.
Snook, a 34-year-old who proudly served on the Delaware State Police for a decade, was shot while on duty during an overtime assignment at the Karen L. Johnson DMV in Wilmington. Authorities reported that a 44-year-old man, who had initially entered the DMV as a customer, approached Snook at the reception desk and opened fire.
The suspect was subsequently shot and killed by responding officers during the incident. Snook’s bravery in the face of danger is being remembered by colleagues and community members alike.
A native of Delaware, Snook graduated from Saint Mark’s High School and later from the University of Maryland, where he was a member of the wrestling team. He leaves behind his beloved wife and their one-year-old daughter, who are now facing an unimaginable loss.
