Police called the early Sunday shooting an isolated incident but have not said how the hospitalized woman was injured.
TOWSON, Md. — A woman was hospitalized and a man was fatally shot after a fight inside a Towson restaurant early Sunday escalated when the man brandished a knife and an armed security guard fired his handgun, Baltimore County police said.
The shooting happened about 12:45 a.m. Oct. 25 at the Crackpot Bar in the 8100 block of Loch Raven Boulevard. Police said officers responding to the business learned that a physical altercation had occurred inside. During the fight, a man displayed a knife before the security guard shot him, according to investigators.
The man died at the scene. Police had not released his identity by Sunday evening. A woman who was also inside the restaurant suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital, but authorities did not say how she was hurt or provide an update on her condition.
The lack of detail about the woman’s injuries is among several unanswered questions in the early stages of the investigation. Police have not said whether she was directly involved in the altercation, was injured during the shooting or was hurt in some other way.
Authorities said the armed guard remained at the restaurant after the gunfire and is cooperating with detectives. Police had not announced charges against the guard or anyone else connected with the incident as of Sunday.
Baltimore County police described what happened as an isolated event and said there was no ongoing threat to the public. That assessment addressed immediate safety concerns but did not resolve questions about what started the confrontation or how it developed before the guard fired.
Investigators have not publicly identified the other people involved in the fight or described any witness accounts. Police also have not released information about surveillance video or other evidence that could help establish the sequence of events inside the restaurant.
The shooting occurred during the overnight hours at a business along Loch Raven Boulevard in Towson. Authorities have released only a preliminary account, and it remains unclear whether additional findings will change or add to the initial description of the confrontation.
Police continued working Sunday to determine the full circumstances of the incident. The identities of the man who died and the injured woman, her medical condition and further details about the fight had not been publicly released.
