Tigress T-83 Captured After Fatal Attacks, Search Ongoing for Durgapur Leopard

Chandrapur, India: The capture of a notorious tigress, known as T-83, has brought relief to residents in the Chichpalli forest range and Mul buffer range under the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. The tigress, responsible for at least four human deaths, had been causing fear and concern among villagers in the area. After mounting pressure from the public and local representatives, forest authorities took action to capture the threat.

The Rapid Response Team of the TATR successfully tranquilized and captured the tigress, following days of tracking and search efforts. Guided by team leader Dr. Ravikant Khobragade, sharpshooter Ajay Marathe darted the tigress for safe relocation to the Transit Treatment Center at Chandrapur. Plans are underway to transfer the captured tigress to the Gorewada Zoo in Nagpur.

In a separate operation, efforts are ongoing to locate a problematic leopard in the Durgapur area, which was involved in the tragic death of a young boy. The forest department has implemented additional measures, including the installation of braided nets and cages, to prevent further incidents of human-wildlife conflict. Enhanced patrolling has been put in place to ensure the safety of the local community.

The successful capture of the tigress and the ongoing search for the Durgapur leopard highlight the importance of wildlife conservation and human-wildlife conflict management in forested areas. The efforts of the forest authorities, supported by local communities, demonstrate a commitment to preserving the delicate balance between wildlife and human habitation in the region. As these conservation efforts continue, residents hope for a peaceful coexistence with the natural wildlife that surrounds their homes.
