Izzy Dolin’s family says the 24-year-old was getting coffee before work when she was wounded during an attempted carjacking.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 24-year-old woman who was shot during an attempted carjacking in a Fayetteville grocery store parking lot will need reconstructive surgery, her family says, as authorities investigate three shootings that wounded women across the area Sunday morning.
Izzy Dolin was identified by her family as the woman wounded at the Food Lion parking lot on McArthur Road. Her sister, Leighanna Bullard, told WRAL that Dolin had stopped for coffee before heading to work when she was approached by a man she did not know. The shooting was one of three that authorities say involved the same suspect Sunday morning. Fayetteville police later identified that suspect as 52-year-old Robert Page.
Bullard said the encounter began when the man demanded Dolin’s vehicle. According to her account, Dolin initially did not understand the seriousness of the encounter before the man pushed her down and shot her. Police had been called to the Food Lion parking lot for a reported attempted carjacking and shooting. Officers arrived to find Dolin wounded, while the suspect had already left the scene.
Derrick Hicks, a bystander, approached after seeing Dolin injured. Hicks told WRAL that the man who had been near Dolin left as he came closer. Hicks then helped Dolin until emergency crews arrived. Bullard credited his intervention with helping her sister survive. Hicks described his response as an ordinary effort to help someone who was badly hurt rather than an act he considered extraordinary.
Dolin’s family said she remained in good spirits despite facing reconstructive surgery. Authorities reported Sunday night that all three women wounded during the morning’s incidents were in stable condition. One woman remained at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, while another was flown to UNC Medical Center. Officials have not publicly identified the other two victims.
The violence began at 7:03 a.m., when Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 700 block of Messenger Street after a reported shooting. Deputies found a woman who had been shot and had her taken for medical treatment. WRAL later reported that warrants identify that woman as Page’s girlfriend. Authorities have not publicly released a motive for that shooting.
At 7:12 a.m., Fayetteville police responded to a Hardee’s in the 6300 block of Ramsey Street for another reported shooting and attempted carjacking. Officers found a second wounded woman. A short time later came the call from the Food Lion parking lot in the 900 block of McArthur Road, where Dolin was found. Police said the suspect left the Fayetteville scenes before officers arrived.
Investigators said witnesses and the Fayetteville Police Department’s Crime Information Center helped officers locate the suspect. Page was arrested and was being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond. The Fayetteville Police Department and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office are both involved because the incidents crossed city and county jurisdictional lines.
Page faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Other charges include robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of stolen goods or property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The charges are allegations, and Page has not been convicted in connection with Sunday’s shootings.
The case now moves from the emergency response and hospital treatment phase into an ongoing criminal investigation and court proceedings. Page was scheduled for a court hearing Monday afternoon. Investigators have not publicly explained a motive tying the three shootings together, while Dolin and the other two women continue their recoveries.
