Houston, Texas – A tragic shooting took place at Lakewood Church on Sunday, leaving the shooter dead and a 7-year-old boy critically injured. The shooter has been identified as Genesse Ivonne Moreno, a 36-year-old individual with a history of mental illness. The incident, which involved the use of an AR-style rifle, occurred just before a service at the church, one of the largest in the United States.
Authorities have disclosed that Moreno had previously been placed under emergency detention in 2016. While the motive for the shooting remains unclear, officials are investigating a dispute between the shooter and the family of the shooter’s ex-husband, as well as the discovery of antisemitic writings. Additionally, it was revealed that the rifle used in the shooting bore a “Palestine” sticker, and the shooter was described as a “lone wolf” acting independently.
During the incident, Moreno and the boy entered the church, where they encountered security guards Christopher Moreno and Adrian Herrera. A gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of the shooter and critical injury to the young child. While one other individual was also wounded in the shooting, he has since been discharged from the hospital. Furthermore, despite claims of a bomb, no explosives were found on the premises.
