Tesla Charging Station Shooting: Family Honors Memory of Victim on 1-Year Anniversary

EDGEWATER, Colo. – As the one-year anniversary approaches, the family and loved ones of Adam Fresquez gathered to commemorate and honor his memory after he was tragically shot and killed following a dispute near a Tesla charging station in Edgewater. The emotional gathering included a mass and a poignant dove release in remembrance of the 33-year-old victim.

Adam’s mother, Lena Fresquez Mendez, expressed her ongoing grief and longing for her son, reflecting on the pain that remains unchanged even a year after his passing. Despite the passage of time, the family continues to struggle with the profound loss, highlighting that healing from such a tragedy is an enduring process.

The family waited until this moment to find a permanent resting place for Adam’s ashes, choosing to inter him in a mausoleum at a local cemetery as a way of honoring his memory and finding solace in the idea of sacred ground. The Edgewater Police Department’s investigation revealed that the fatal altercation between Adam Fresquez and another man culminated in a shooting at the Tesla charging station on May 3, 2023. Through the issuance of an autopsy report, it was determined that Adam had sustained two gunshot wounds to his back during the tragic incident.

Following seven months of pursuit, the suspect, Jeremy Smith, was apprehended in December and now faces charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter in connection with Adam’s untimely death. Currently incarcerated at the Jefferson County Jail on a $150,000 bail, Smith is scheduled for an arraignment on May 20 to address the allegations against him.
