Teen Girl Killed as Car Slams Into Pedestrians on Dixie Highway

One teen died at the scene and two others were hurt.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Shively police are investigating after a car crashed into three people Saturday afternoon on Dixie Highway, killing a teenage girl and injuring a woman and another teen, officials said.

The crash was reported at 4:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Dixie Highway, a commercial area near Park Road and Leroy Avenue. Shively Police Sgt. Jordan Brown said officers found that a vehicle had struck multiple pedestrians. A teenage girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a woman in her 30s and a second teenage girl were taken to a local hospital. Their injuries were described as not life-threatening. Officials did not release the names of the victims, the driver or the type of vehicle involved in the crash.

Family members and loved ones gathered near the scene soon after the collision. People familiar with the victims said the teen who was killed lived close to where the crash happened. Police did not immediately say whether the pedestrians were on a sidewalk, near a business or crossing the road when they were hit.

The investigation was still active Saturday night. Officers had not announced any charges or arrests. Police also had not said whether the driver stayed at the scene, whether anyone was questioned or whether traffic cameras or nearby business cameras may be part of the review.

The fatal crash added to concerns along Dixie Highway, a heavily traveled route through Shively and southwest Louisville. The road includes gas stations, stores, intersections and residential streets, creating regular interaction between vehicles and people walking nearby.

Police said the case remains under investigation, with more details expected after investigators finish early evidence gathering and officials notify family members.
