Prince George’s County Police Department homicide detectives are investigating the shooting and working to identify a suspect or suspects. Authorities had not announced an arrest or released a possible motive as of Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said their preliminary findings indicate the shooting was not random. Police have not publicly explained what led detectives to that conclusion or described any relationship between the two victims and whoever opened fire.

The investigation centers on the 8100 block of 15th Avenue, where officers were called shortly before 2 a.m. Detectives continued working Tuesday to determine what happened before the shooting and identify anyone who may have information about the case.

The surviving girl remained in critical condition, according to the latest information released by authorities. Police had not provided a further update on her condition or described the extent of her injuries.

No description of a suspect or possible vehicle had been publicly released. Authorities also had not said whether a weapon was recovered or how many people may have been involved. Those questions remain part of the homicide investigation.
