Teen Charged with Open Murder After Father and Brother Found Dead in Reno

RENO, Nev. – The Washoe County Medical Examiner has released the identity of the man involved in a tragic incident in north Reno on Friday, Feb. 9. Justin Reid, 39, was fatally shot multiple times, according to the report from the medical examiner. The victim’s son, who has not been named, also suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head.

In another grim development, the daughter and sister of the victims, 17-year-old Mashenka Reid, has been charged with two counts of open murder and one count of attempted murder. Court filings allege that Reid also attempted to gain access to a locked bedroom in order to harm her younger sister.

The accused is currently being held in Washoe County jail and is being charged as an adult. A bail hearing is set for Thursday in Reno Justice Court.

According to court documents acquired by the Reno Gazette Journal, Reid called 911 and confessed, “I couldn’t control the urge to kill somebody,” when officers arrived at the apartment complex at 9755 Silver State Parkway in the North Valleys around 4:15 p.m. on the day of the incident. The report revealed that the victims, including a young male, were pronounced dead by emergency medical services.
