Nashville, Tennessee – A 19-year-old suspect was recently apprehended by Nashville police in connection to a fatal shooting in Madison. The arrest of Jaylin Sanford took place outside an apartment in West Nashville, just a day after 19-year-old Kenneth Buford Jr. lost his life in the tragic incident.
Authorities responded to a field off North Gallatin Pike near McKinley Street around 3 p.m. on Monday, where they discovered Buford in critical condition. Despite being rushed to Skyline Medical Center, Buford succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Based on information shared by law enforcement on social media, Sanford is believed to have used an automatic pistol during the shooting. Surveillance footage captured the sequence of events, depicting the suspect running towards Buford and a companion before firing multiple shots.
Buford sustained several gunshot wounds while attempting to flee the scene, while his friend managed to escape unharmed. Following the shooting, Sanford was observed retrieving items from the ground near the victim before leaving the area in the direction of McKinley Street.
Further evidence linking Sanford to the crime emerged when Buford’s friend positively identified him as the shooter from a photo lineup. Subsequently, Sanford was placed under arrest and taken to the Downtown Detention Center on charges of criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide. As of now, he remains in custody on a $600,000 bond.
