Teen Arrested for Murder of Tacoma Business Owner in New Orleans

New Orleans, Lousiana (AP) – A 16-year-old is facing murder charges for the killing of a popular Tacoma, Washington business owner while visiting New Orleans earlier this month. The teenager was arrested on Friday, according to a news release from the NOPD.

Jacob Carter, a College Station native, was fatally shot on January 5 at the intersection of Bourbon and Kerlerec Streets. The 16-year-old suspect was apprehended in Jefferson Parish on unrelated charges, and currently has an outstanding warrant for second-degree murder from NOPD. Once released from Jefferson Parish, he will be transported to Orleans Parish and booked on second-degree murder.

A GoFundMe campaign is growing rapidly for Carter’s husband and their bagel shop business. Zeitman’s in Downtown Bryan is also hosting a fundraiser for the families of Jacob and another family who recently lost a loved one.

According to an Instagram post from the Howdy Bagel account, Jake Carter was described as someone who “exuded kindness, warmth, and genuine care to everyone he met.”
