Rescuers in Suviana, Italy have recovered the bodies of two more victims from the tragic explosion that rocked the Enel power plant. This brings the total number of fatalities to five, with two individuals still unaccounted for and five others injured. The process of retrieving the bodies from the wreckage is currently underway, as over 100 firefighters remain dedicated to ongoing search efforts.
Civil Protection Department head, Fabrizio Curcio, described the situation as complex due to partial flooding on three floors of the plant. Despite the challenges, Curcio emphasized the primary focus on locating the missing individuals. He reassured the public of the continuous and meticulous efforts being made to ensure the safety of search operations.
In addition to the search and rescue mission, authorities are also monitoring the environmental impact of the incident. Contamination from oils and fluids within the plant has raised concerns, prompting the activation of monitoring and sampling procedures to assess the extent of the environmental damage.
Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel green power, disclosed that no functioning tests were being conducted at the time of the explosion on the second group of the plant. The unexpected tragedy has prompted a review of safety protocols and operational practices to prevent similar incidents in the future.
