Suspect Sought in Fatal Herndon Teen Shooting: Ismael Cruz-Delcid Wanted

Herndon, Virginia – Police in Herndon, Virginia have identified the suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager on Wednesday afternoon. The suspect, 18-year-old Ismael Cruz-Delcid, is being sought by authorities after a confrontation among three teenagers led to the shooting in a hotel parking lot on Coppermine Road.

According to Fairfax County police, Cruz-Delcid arrived at the scene in his car and engaged in a physical fight with two other teens before pulling out a gun and firing at them. One of the teenagers was shot and later died at a hospital, while the other victim managed to escape the gunshots and identify the shooter to the police.

After the shooting, Cruz-Delcid fled the scene, leaving his Honda Civic behind. Police have since issued arrest warrants for Cruz-Delcid on charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, as well as a warrant related to a previous narcotics investigation.

Investigators are urging anyone with information on the crime or the whereabouts of Cruz-Delcid to contact Fairfax County police. The police have also deployed victim specialists from their Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division to assist the victim’s family in accessing resources and support during this difficult time.

The incident prompted a large police response, with heavily armed officers searching the area near Lutie Lewis Coates Elementary School, which was placed on lockdown. Fairfax County Deputy Police Chief Brooke Wright expressed deep concern for the victim’s family, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation given the suspect’s armed status.
