HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Authorities in Beaufort County have charged a 77-year-old man in the death of his wife, according to the county sheriff’s office. The man, identified as John K. Rounds, is facing murder charges in connection with the incident.
Deputies were called to a residence on Penny Creek Drive on Saturday following a 911 call reporting a possible suicide by the man and his wife. Upon arrival, deputies found the man’s wife deceased and the man himself with minor injuries.
Initial investigations suggest that Rounds suffocated his wife before attempting to take his own life, which was unsuccessful. He was treated by emergency medical services at the scene before being transported to a local hospital. Following his release from medical care, he was placed under arrest.
