Suicide Investigation: 46-Year-Old Preacher’s Followers Found Dead After Alleged Poison Ingestion

Police in Maharagama, Sri Lanka, made a gruesome discovery on Tuesday as they found the bodies of a young man and a woman who had allegedly died from drinking poison. The two individuals were reportedly followers of a 46-year-old religious preacher who had recently taken his own life in the Makumbura, Homagama area.

Authorities revealed that seven deaths by suicide, all involving similar types of poison, had occurred under suspicious circumstances within a few days. As a result, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has taken on the task of investigating these tragic events.

The 34-year-old man’s body was found at a guest house in Maharagama, where he had been temporarily staying. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old woman, a university student, was found at her residence in Yakkala.

The investigations have revealed a potential link between the two individuals, as they were believed to have been lovers who committed suicide around the same time in different locations. This discovery has raised suspicion of the involvement of the religious preacher’s teachings in the chain of suicide incidents.

Authorities also suspect that other individuals who were followers of the deceased preacher and influenced by his religious teachings may be at risk. The investigation is ongoing, with police officers and special units diligently working to uncover the truth behind these tragic deaths.

It is a heartbreaking situation as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the deaths of these individuals. The events in Maharagama serve as a somber reminder of the devastating impact of suicide and the potential influence of radical religious teachings. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities push to understand the circumstances surrounding these tragic deaths.
