Stray Bullet Claims Life of Michigan Man in Kalamazoo Northside Shooting

Kalamazoo, Michigan – A tragic incident unfolded on April 10, 2024, as a stray bullet claimed the life of a Michigan man in a northside shooting in Kalamazoo. The victim, identified as Mark Jackson, 53, hailing from New Baltimore, Mich., was fatally shot when a bullet pierced through the front door of the apartment he was staying in.

According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the authorities received a call about shots fired near Interfaith Boulevard around 10:25 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered a chaotic situation with a crashed car riddled with bullet holes, multiple shell casings scattered around, and a small crowd of witnesses.

Jackson was found unresponsive and bleeding from the head inside a nearby apartment. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Reports suggested that the suspect involved in the shooting had targeted passengers in a car near Jackson’s residence before fleeing the scene.

Although the passengers in the car escaped physical harm, one of the rounds penetrated the apartment’s front door, resulting in the tragic death of the 53-year-old victim. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety urged anyone with information related to the shooting or other incidents of gun violence to come forward and contact the KDPS Criminal Investigation Division.
