Standoff in Kenner: Officers Injured in Active Shooter Incident, Suspect Killed

Kenner, Louisiana – Three police officers were shot in Kenner, Louisiana, Sunday morning during a reported active shooter situation. The incident led to a standoff at a residence on Farm Avenue, where the suspect was later shot and killed by police.

The active shooter was first reported near the Kenner/St. Charles Parish line along Airline Highway in the afternoon. Authorities from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office urged people to avoid the eastbound section of Airline Highway in the area due to the ongoing situation.

St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne later confirmed that the three Kenner Police Officers who were shot were in stable condition. The standoff ended as the suspect was neutralized by law enforcement.

Additionally, the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police provided updates, stating that one officer was initially in critical condition. The incident occurred at a home in Kenner where two other individuals were also shot on the same morning.

The SWAT team was called to the scene, and the suspect opened fire at an armored vehicle before being shot by a sniper. The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Matthew Lathers, who was also wanted in connection to a previous shooting incident.

The motive behind the active shooter situation is currently unclear, and investigators are working to determine any possible links to the earlier shootings in Kenner.
