Standoff Ends with Arrest of Suspect in Museum District Shooting

Houston, Texas – After a deadly shooting near the Museum District on Tuesday, law enforcement successfully apprehended the suspect following a standoff in west Harris County the following day. Tilford Anthony Joseph, 46, was taken into custody after barricading himself inside an apartment complex in the Katy area, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Deputies responded to a call at a complex on Westborough Drive, where Joseph had barricaded himself following a weapons disturbance. It was discovered that Joseph was a suspect in the shooting that occurred just after midnight on Tuesday, where a woman was killed and a constable deputy was shot at.

The incident began when Houston Fire Department paramedics witnessed a domestic violence altercation at a gas station, where a man shot a woman multiple times. The suspect then engaged in a shootout with a deputy, stole his vehicle, returned to the scene, and fired more shots before fleeing.

The victim, identified as Teresa Houston, who worked at a high school in the area, tragically lost her life as a result of the shooting. The deputy constable involved in the incident sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Authorities confirmed that the suspect, Joseph, was wanted for murder and aggravated assault of a peace officer.

After an intense standoff, Joseph was eventually taken into custody without further incident. The swift action by law enforcement led to the successful apprehension of the suspect, bringing some closure to the tragic events that transpired near the Museum District.
