Stabbing Spree: Paroled Man Repeatedly Stabs 75-Year-Old Woman in Bronx Elevator

Fordham, The Bronx – A man arrested for the unprovoked stabbing of a 75-year-old woman in a Bronx elevator was on parole when the incident occurred. Edwin Rios, 38, allegedly followed the victim into the elevator of her apartment building at 2066 Morris Ave. on Sunday morning and repeatedly stabbed her in the hands and head. The attack appeared to be random in nature.

The victim, Zenona Ramos, managed to escape the elevator, covered in blood, and went down the hall to seek help by banging on doors before a neighbor called 911. Exclusive video footage captured the suspect calmly leaving the building and walking down the street following the violent attack. Ramos, currently in stable condition at St. Barnabas, is expected to survive but has sustained numerous stab wounds on her face and hands, requiring 40 stitches in one hand.

During the attack, Ramos pleaded with the suspect to spare her life, emphasizing that she has a family. The great-grandmother is on the path to recovery but remains haunted by the traumatic experience. Rios has a history of violence, having been previously charged with attempted murder for a similar incident involving a 22-year-old woman in Queens back in 2012. Despite this, he was released on parole last August, with his parole set to expire in June.

Ramos’s daughter, Mirian Ramos Garcia, expressed her anger at the system’s failure to prevent the attack, given Rios’s past violent behavior. Rios is now facing charges of attempted murder in connection with the Bronx incident. The community is rallying around the victim and her family, offering support and solidarity during this challenging time. The case serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of ensuring public safety and accountability within the criminal justice system.
