SANTA MONICA, CA – A tragic stabbing outside a prestigious Santa Monica hotel has left one man dead and another injured, prompting a police investigation. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning at the Fairmont Hotel’s Bungalow lounge, a well-known destination for nightlife enthusiasts.
Around 1:50 a.m., as the bar was closing, an altercation inside the venue spilled out onto the sidewalk, resulting in the violent attack. Two men were stabbed during the chaos; a 31-year-old from Anaheim tragically lost his life, while the other victim sustained injuries but survived.
Eyewitnesses recounted the frantic efforts of a friend who tried to save the deceased by applying pressure to his wound. Law enforcement is currently examining security footage from the bar in an attempt to reconstruct the events leading up to the stabbing. No suspects have been apprehended at this time.
The Bungalow, known for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse clientele, has become a source of concern for local residents who fear for their safety. Long-time resident Ross Proud emphasized the need for enhanced security measures in response to the incident.
Many Santa Monica residents have voiced their worries about the city’s handling of crime and safety, with some feeling the situation has been mismanaged. The police chief addressed these concerns, reiterating the department’s unwavering commitment to ensuring public safety and securing justice for the victims.
This incident is the second violent crime in the area in recent weeks, following a shooting nearby earlier this month. Police arrested Fabian Mendez of Inglewood in connection with that crime, where a transient was shot in the back.
While the surviving victim from the stabbing has received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities continue to seek information from the public to aid their investigation.
