Singapore: Arrest Made in Fatal Six-Vehicle Crash in Tampines

Singapore – Authorities have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection to a tragic six-vehicle crash in Tampines that left two people dead. The driver, who was initially cooperating with the investigation, was taken into custody on Wednesday for dangerous driving causing death. Additionally, his driving license has been immediately suspended in light of the incident.

The collision, which took place at the junction of Tampines Avenue 1 and Tampines Avenue 4, involved four cars, a van, and a minibus on April 22nd. Two victims, a 17-year-old female car passenger, and a 57-year-old female van passenger, succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Norzihan Juwahib and Afifah Munirah Muhammad Azril, respectively.

One of the victims, Afifah, was a first-year student at Temasek Junior College (TJC), on her way to participate in the annual TJC Run when the tragic accident occurred. The principal of TJC, Liu Earnler, expressed deep sadness over the loss and assured that the school would provide support to students and staff affected by the incident.

Norzihan, the other victim, was reportedly affiliated with First Choice Pest Specialist, a pest control firm in the area. Authorities revealed that in addition to the fatalities, several individuals were injured in the crash and transported to various hospitals for treatment.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the scene, where they found a person with a leg trapped under a car’s wheel. SCDF utilized hydraulic rescue equipment to free the individual’s leg and provided necessary medical assistance to those injured in the collision.

Footage captured at the scene showcased the aftermath of the crash, highlighting the severity of the incident. Authorities commended the efforts of members of the public, including a nurse and off-duty SCDF officers, who rendered aid to the injured individuals.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic incident. As the community continues to grapple with the loss of lives and injuries sustained, support services are being extended to those affected during this challenging time.
