Kansas City, Missouri – One fatality and multiple injuries, including children, were reported in a tragic shooting that occurred at the conclusion of the Super Bowl celebration parade for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Reports from Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves indicated that 23 individuals sustained gunshot wounds, with one person succumbing to their injuries. The deceased victim was identified as Lisa Lopez-Galvan, according to sources.
Graves stated that the incident appears to have stemmed from a dispute among several individuals, ruling out links to terrorism or extremism. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement recovering several firearms from the scene and detaining two juveniles in connection to the shooting.
The victims of the shooting ranged in age from 8 to 47, with a significant portion under the age of 16, as confirmed by Graves. Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City received 12 patients from the rally, including 11 children between the ages of 6 and 15, with all expected to recover.
Additionally, University Health hospital received eight gunshot victims, with five of them already discharged. The Kansas City Chiefs released a statement affirming the safety of all players, coaches, and staff, expressing condolences for the tragic events that unfolded.
President Joe Biden also shared sentiments of solidarity in response to the shooting, reflecting on the somber turn of events during what should have been a joyous celebration for Kansas City residents. Chiefs players, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, expressed their grief and support for the community through social media platforms.
