OKLAHOMA CITY — A road rage confrontation early Wednesday morning resulted in the shooting death of a 47-year-old man. Police report that Jeffrey Gill was shot multiple times near Northwest Expressway and May Avenue after a dispute with a driver.
The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. when Gill was walking along the roadway. Officers say he and another individual, identified as 24-year-old Darius Williams, engaged in a heated argument. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the altercation escalated from Gill being in the road. Following the confrontation, Williams allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Gill before fleeing the scene.
Police arrived shortly after, finding Gill suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries approximately an hour later.
Later, in a twist of events, Williams reportedly switched vehicles and returned to the location of the shooting. Upon his return, he confessed to law enforcement that he had fired the shots that fatally struck Gill.
Following the confession, Williams was arrested and booked on a second-degree murder charge. Authorities are still in the process of gathering additional evidence and conducting interviews as part of the ongoing investigation.
This tragic incident underscores the escalating concerns surrounding road rage incidents in urban areas. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of remaining calm in traffic situations to prevent such violent outcomes.
