Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Injured in Newberry, SC: Police Seek Public’s Help

Newberry, South Carolina – A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend in Newberry, South Carolina, as a 53-year-old man, identified as Troy Leonard Sims, lost his life in a shooting that also left two other individuals injured, as per the Newberry County Coroner’s Office.

The shooting took place on Emory Street, close to the intersection with Hunt Street, where officers from the Newberry Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Upon arrival, they discovered three victims who had sustained gunshot wounds, including Sims.

The injured victims were promptly attended to, with one of them being taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia, while the other victim received treatment at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, Sims was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Laura Kneece.

Kneece officially ruled Sims’ death as a homicide, prompting an investigation by local law enforcement agencies and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. At this time, no information has been disclosed regarding potential suspects or motives behind the shooting.
