Shooting in South Jordan Leaves One Dead; Suspect Arrested Amid Ongoing Police Search for Accomplice

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old man. The incident, which unfolded just before 2 a.m., led to an arrest, while police continue to pursue a second suspect.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered the man with several gunshot wounds near Copper Stone Drive. Despite attempts to administer medical aid, he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The victim’s identity has not yet been disclosed.

In connection with the shooting, 38-year-old Kevin Charles Scarbourough was taken into custody and is facing murder charges. Investigators revealed that Scarbourough allegedly accompanied the shooter to the location where the violence erupted. Witnesses indicated that a physical altercation took place between Scarbourough and the victim in the backyard of the residence prior to the shooting.

According to court documents, the situation escalated inside the home, leading to a second confrontation that appeared to involve gang-related tensions. Witnesses reported that after the initial fight was broken up, Scarbourough allegedly urged the shooter to open fire on the victim. When confronted, the shooter expressed reluctance, citing fears of imprisonment, but Scarbourough reportedly reiterated his command, prompting the gunfire.

In a police interview, Scarbourough claimed he arrived at the scene via an Uber and stated that chaos ensued after he stepped away to use the bathroom. He described feeling disoriented and only remembered fleeing the residence before being apprehended by law enforcement. Scarbourough denied any involvement in the shooting and maintained that he did not see any weapons.

Police have identified a second person of interest in the case and are actively working to track him down. Investigators assure the public that there is no ongoing threat related to the incident.

Authorities are urging anyone with pertinent information about the shooting to come forward to assist with the investigation.
