The victim, identified as 48-year-old Steven Adkins from Prestonsburg, was pronounced dead shortly after the incident at Highland Regional Medical Center. Reports indicate that Adkins was shot during an altercation with a 67-year-old man named Larry Johnson, who resides in Auxier.

Following the confrontation, Johnson fled the scene, leading authorities to initiate a manhunt in the thick woods near Jane Brown Branch. KSP has confirmed that Johnson’s vehicle was located, but he remains at large. He is described as wearing a blue flannel shirt and blue jeans at the time of his disappearance. A warrant has been issued for his arrest as the investigation continues.
