Shooting Fight at Super Bowl Parade Leads to Murder Charges for Two Men

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – Two men in Kansas City, Missouri, are facing charges of second-degree murder in connection with a deadly shooting at a Super Bowl victory parade, which resulted in the death of one person and left more than 20 others injured. Court documents and prosecutors revealed that Lyndell Mays and Dominic Miller were arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting, which reportedly stemmed from a dispute over eye contact.

The arrests of Mays and Miller bring the total number of individuals facing prosecution for the Valentine’s Day shooting to four. Additionally, two teenagers were taken into custody and charged as juveniles in family court for firearms offenses and resisting arrest. However, prosecutors are seeking to charge the minors as adults, and the investigation is ongoing.

According to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, the violence on February 14th stemmed from an argument between Mays and another individual who was a stranger to him. This quarrel quickly escalated, leading to a gunfight involving multiple individuals drawing their weapons.

Both Mays and Miller are accused of firing shots during the altercation, with evidence pointing to a bullet from Miller’s weapon being the one that struck and killed radio personality Elizabeth Lopez-Galvan. Reports state that a total of 25 individuals were known to be victims of gunshot wounds, including at least nine children.

The shooting occurred following a parade and rally near the city’s landmark Union Station, where a large crowd had gathered to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory. The incident unfolded in the midst of heightened media attention surrounding the Chiefs’ triumph and festivities.

A conviction for second-degree murder in Missouri carries a potential prison sentence of 10 to 30 years or life. This incident marks one of many mass shootings that have taken place in the US in 2024, further emphasizing the ongoing issue of gun violence in the country.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities have not released the ages of the accused individuals. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the impact of gun violence and the tragic consequences it can have on communities.
