MADISON, Wis. — A father has been arrested in connection with a tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School that resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Jeffrey Rupnow, 42, was taken into custody early Thursday morning and faces serious felony charges for his role in the incident involving his daughter, Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow, who is accused of carrying out the attack.
According to Madison police, Rupnow was apprehended around 3:45 a.m. An arrest warrant was later unsealed, revealing charges of contributing to the delinquency of a child and two counts of providing a dangerous weapon to a minor, which led to fatalities.
Interim Police Chief John Patterson provided details during a news conference, noting that weapons were discovered at the school on the day of the shooting incident. While only one firearm was used in the attack, both guns involved had been legally purchased by Rupnow at local Dane County retailers.
Authorities reported that additional firearms were found at the family’s residence, including one that was intended as a gift for his daughter. While there was a gun safe accessible in the household, officials indicated that it did not prevent the teenager from gaining regular access to firearms.
The Dane County District Attorney’s Office has stated that Rupnow is set to appear in court for his initial hearing, where further legal proceedings will be determined. The shooting, which occurred in December 2024, resulted in the deaths of a teacher and a student, with several others injured. As of now, five individuals have been discharged from the hospital, while one remains in critical condition.
