Shooting During Lincoln University’s Homecoming Celebrations Leaves One Dead and Six Injured

Lincoln University, Pennsylvania — A night of celebration turned tragic on Saturday when gunfire erupted during homecoming festivities, resulting in one death and six injuries, according to authorities. The incident took place shortly before 9:30 p.m. outside the International Cultural Center on campus, where crowds had gathered to enjoy various events.

Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe described the event as abruptly disrupted by a barrage of gunfire, sending attendees fleeing in panic. “We are devastated to announce that one person has died,” he said during a late-night news briefing. “In addition, six others were injured as a result of the shooting.”

In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement detained an individual at the scene who was found with a firearm. However, no formal charges have been filed as investigators continue to assess the incident. Evidence suggests multiple shooters may have been involved, prompting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.

Officials established a wide crime scene around the International Cultural Center, where debris from the shooting, including ballistic evidence, is being collected. De Barrena-Sarobe stated that early findings indicate the shooting was not a targeted attack against the university or part of a premeditated attack aimed at causing mass casualties.

The university community is reeling from the violence, as homecoming is typically a time for excitement and reunion among students, alumni, and faculty. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has been briefed on the incident and expressed condolences, offering support to Lincoln University’s president, Brenda Allen, and local law enforcement.

Located about 50 miles southwest of Philadelphia and near the Maryland border, Lincoln University is known for its rich history and diverse student body. As investigators work to uncover the details of this tragic event, the university community is left to grapple with the realities of violence that marred what should have been a joyful celebration.

The investigation remains active as officials seek to gather more information and ensure the safety of the campus in the coming days.
