Shooting: Brother Arrested in Chester Homicide Following Fatal Altercation

Chester, Pa. — A 36-year-old man faces multiple charges following the fatal shooting of his brother earlier this week in a domestic dispute that turned violent. Kyle Rhyanes was arrested and placed in the George W. Hill Correctional Facility without bail on Friday after the death of his brother, Corey Rhyanes, 35.

Police responded to reports of a domestic incident in the 500 block of Dorian Drive shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As officers approached the scene, they heard an additional gunshot, prompting them to escalate their response to an active shooter situation.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals on the ground outside the residence. One had sustained a gunshot wound to the hand. Kyle Rhyanes was found uninjured at the scene. Emergency personnel quickly transported the injured individual away from the area for medical assistance.

After securing the perimeter, officers entered the home and found Corey Rhyanes unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m. by medical personnel. Police initially detained Kyle Rhyanes for questioning as part of their ongoing investigation.

Detectives learned that the brothers, along with their sister and her boyfriend, had arrived together at the Dorian Drive home shortly before the incident. What started as a family gathering escalated into a physical altercation, leading to the tragic shooting of Corey Rhyanes and injury to the sister’s boyfriend.

While specific details of the altercation remain unclear, police continue to investigate the sequence of events and whether the shot heard by officers was the one that killed Corey Rhyanes. The injured boyfriend was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for treatment, although further details regarding his condition have not been disclosed. The identities of the sister and her boyfriend have been withheld.

The legal process for Kyle Rhyanes is underway. He has been charged with first- and third-degree murder, as well as multiple counts of manslaughter and weapon-related offenses. His arraignment was conducted by District Judge David Griffin.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any additional information or video footage that might aid in the investigation. Those with details are encouraged to contact Detective Patrick Flynn of the Chester Police or Delaware County Detective Vinny Port. The case is ongoing, and further updates are expected as investigators continue to gather evidence.
