Washington, D.C. – Authorities are seeking assistance from the public in identifying a suspect involved in a fatal shooting near Union Station last month. The Metropolitan Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on February 10.
Law enforcement agencies swiftly responded to the scene after Amtrak Police detected gunshots in the vicinity of the bus waiting area. Upon arrival, officers discovered 18-year-old Wayne McDaniel with a gunshot wound near the parking garage escalators. Despite efforts to save him, McDaniel succumbed to his injuries, while the shooter managed to flee before the authorities arrived.
Investigators released surveillance footage showing the interaction between McDaniel and the suspect moments before the fatal shooting took place. According to DC Police Chief Pamela Smith, McDaniel and the perpetrator entered the waiting area near the bus depot together, leading to a confrontation during which McDaniel allegedly tried to seize something from the assailant.
Subsequently, the suspect brandished a firearm and opened fire at McDaniel as he attempted to flee, ultimately collapsing near the escalator due to his injuries. Fortunately, no other individuals in the area sustained harm during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, urging anyone with information to contact the authorities at 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
