L. OXFORD TWP., Pa. — A shooting at Lincoln University during homecoming festivities resulted in one fatality and several injuries, prompting a swift investigation by local authorities. The tragic incident unfolded Saturday night following a football game, unsettling the community.
Chester County District Attorney Christopher De Barrena-Sarobe confirmed that 25-year-old Juwan Jeffers from Wilmington, Delaware, succumbed to a gunshot wound late that night. “It is with great sorrow that we report Mr. Jeffers died shortly after midnight,” he said. Multiple others were injured during the altercation, but officials expect those victims to recover.
Authorities have arrested 21-year-old Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson in connection with the shooting. He faces charges for carrying a concealed weapon without a license; however, officials believe there were multiple shooters involved. Current investigations are examining the firearm located on him to determine its role in the incident.
“We do not believe the shooters had a premeditated intention to create a mass shooting event,” De Barrena-Sarobe noted. “This appears to be a shooting that erratically erupted during an otherwise joyous occasion.” Investigators are exploring various leads to ascertain the origins of the violence.
To gather more evidence, teams are employing search dogs, conducting interviews, and piecing together surveillance footage. They are actively seeking assistance from the public, urging anyone with relevant information or video footage to come forward. Tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI.
“We remain committed to ensuring safety on this campus,” De Barrena-Sarobe emphasized. “We will do everything in our power to hold accountable those responsible for this disruption of homecoming weekend.”
In response to the tragic event, Lincoln University canceled classes for the following Monday. However, the District Attorney indicated that support services would be available for students coping with the aftermath.
Morgan-Thompson is currently held on a $25,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on November 18. The investigation continues as the community grapples with the impact of the shooting.
