KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Charges have been brought against a third individual in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred during last month’s Kansas City Chiefs parade, leading to the death of one woman and injuries to over two dozen others. The Jackson County prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday that Terry Young, 20, faces charges of second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. Young is currently in custody, with prosecutors requesting a $1 million cash bond for his detainment. This incident marked a tragic conclusion to the celebration following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade.
Previously, two other men were charged with second-degree murder in relation to the shooting, with two juveniles also facing separate charges in the case. The ongoing investigation by prosecutors indicates the possibility of additional charges being filed in connection to the incident. The altercation that led to the shooting reportedly began with an argument outside Union Station on February 14th, during the celebration. Prosecutors revealed that Young and two others approached a separate group of individuals, resulting in a confrontation where firearms were brandished.
According to surveillance footage, Young is seen drawing his own weapon and advancing towards the group involved in the argument, allegedly firing multiple shots. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker stated in a released statement on Thursday that anyone identified as discharging a firearm during the altercation has been taken into custody. The tragic loss of 43-year-old Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two and a local radio DJ, serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of such violence. The community continues to grieve and seek justice for the victims impacted by this senseless act.
As the legal proceedings progress, the focus remains on holding all responsible parties accountable for their actions during the parade shooting incident. The authorities are committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victims and their families as the case unfolds. With the involvement of multiple individuals in the altercation, the prosecution aims to shed light on the circumstances leading to the tragic events that unfolded amidst what was meant to be a joyous celebration for the city of Kansas City. Despite the somber aftermath, efforts to bring closure and seek justice for those affected continue in the pursuit of a resolution to this heartbreaking chapter in the city’s history.
