New Freeport, Pennsylvania — An 18-year-old man is in custody following a tragic shooting incident on Friday that resulted in the death of his mother and left his father critically injured. Authorities took Jared Noll into custody after he fled the scene, crossing into neighboring West Virginia.
Pennsylvania State Police received reports of the shooting just before 2 p.m. at a residence on Garrison Ridge Road in Greene County. Upon arrival, officers found the mother with a serious gunshot wound. She was rushed to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The father, also wounded, was taken to the same hospital and has since been released in stable condition.
Noll allegedly fled the New Freeport home on foot immediately after the shooting. A comprehensive search ensued, leading West Virginia State Police to apprehend him on Saturday. During his arrest, Noll was reportedly armed, although additional details about the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the weapon have not been disclosed.
Investigators have confirmed that Noll’s younger siblings were present in the home during the shooting, but the incident itself unfolded outside. The children are now safe, being cared for by a relative. State police characterized the shooting as an isolated incident, assuring community members there was no ongoing threat.
In a statement, Pennsylvania State Police Sergeant Richard Sizer expressed gratitude to the local community for their cooperation during the incident’s resolution. “We were able to conduct a thorough search and ensure the safety of the area, and we’re relieved that the matter is concluded,” he said.
Noll faces serious charges, including homicide and attempted homicide. He will remain in police custody in West Virginia pending extradition back to Pennsylvania. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading to this devastating situation.
