Shooter Claims the Life of Decorated Ballroom Dancer at Monterey Park Celebration

MONTEREY PARK, California – My My Nhan was a woman who cherished three things in life – family, fashion, and dance. Originally from Vietnam, she relocated to Southern California in the 1980s and dedicated many years to caring for her mother. However, her passion for fashion eventually led her to the world of dance, a hobby she pursued with great enthusiasm.

According to her niece, Fonda Quan, My My Nhan frequented local ballroom dance venues such as Lai Lai Ballroom in Alhambra and Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, where she would spend her weekends dancing. Tragically, her passion for dance came to a sudden and senseless end when she became one of the 11 victims of a mass shooting that took place during a night of celebration and dancing.

Following the devastating incident, Nhan’s family made it their mission to continue her legacy. While cleaning out her room, they discovered several donations she had made to programs serving seniors and youth. Inspired by her generosity, they established the My My Nhan legacy fund on what would have been her 66th birthday last August. The fund has already facilitated self-defense classes for seniors and awarded college scholarships to high school students. It stands as a testament to Nhan’s giving spirit and her family’s determination to honor her memory.

Despite the tragedy, My My Nhan’s family remains committed to extending her legacy and fulfilling her wishes for as long as possible. They seek to keep moving forward with grace, just as she lived her life. For those interested in contributing to the legacy fund, further information can be found on their website.

My My Nhan’s story is one of resilience and hope in the face of senseless violence. As her family continues to honor her memory, they serve as a reminder of the enduring impact of kindness and generosity.
