Settlement Reached with Mother of Central VPA Shooting Victim by St. Louis Public Schools

St. Louis, Missouri – The St. Louis Public Schools have recently reached a settlement agreement with Keisha Acres, the mother of Alexzandria Bell, a student who tragically lost her life in a mass shooting at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School. Alongside Bell, the shooting also claimed the life of teacher Jean Kuczka in October 2022.

Acres filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the district following the devastating incident. While several others were injured during the shooting, Acres pursued legal action against the school district for the loss of her daughter and the negligence she believed contributed to the tragedy.

Court documents revealed that the school district disputed liability but eventually opted to offer a settlement to resolve Acres’ claims outside of court. The specifics of the settlement, including any monetary terms, were not disclosed in publicly available records.

For the settlement to take effect, it must first receive the approval of a judge. A hearing has been scheduled for March 27 to review the agreement and make a final decision regarding its validity.

Efforts to reach out to the St. Louis Public School district and Acres’ legal representative for comments on the settlement have yet to yield responses. As the community continues to mourn the loss of Bell and Kuczka, the resolution of the legal proceedings brings a sense of closure but also raises questions about accountability and school safety measures moving forward.
