Geelong, Victoria, Australia – A former security guard faced the Geelong Magistrates’ Court for violently assaulting an innocent patron who reportedly urinated on a tree during an event at Mount Duneed Estate. Daniel Thomas White, 36, residing in Gisborne, pleaded guilty to recklessly causing injury in the incident that took place on March 31 last year.
During the court hearing, Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge criticized White for his excessive use of violence, stating that the assault was a prolonged and unwarranted attack on someone who had committed a minor offense. Lethbridge emphasized that as a security guard, White’s duty was to prevent violence, not to engage in it.
White’s defense lawyer, Matthew Nielson, revealed that his client had been experiencing financial difficulties since being stood down from his job as a security guard following the incident. Nielson also mentioned that certain triggers could cause White to act violently, but emphasized his client’s genuine remorse and desire to move forward positively in life.
Despite acknowledging White’s lack of prior criminal record, Lethbridge issued a stern warning, emphasizing that any future violent behavior would result in imprisonment. Ultimately, White received a 15-month community corrections order along with a requirement to complete 200 hours of community work as part of his sentencing.
