FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Authorities are actively pursuing an 18-year-old man suspected of being involved in a fatal shooting at a party in the Fairbanks area last month. Darius Morgan is currently classified as “armed and dangerous” as the investigation unfolds.
Troopers last spotted Morgan in late October, but they believe he may have since relocated to Anchorage. They advise the public to exercise caution and consider him a threat due to his reported possession of firearms.
Morgan is facing serious charges following a grand jury indictment on November 14, including first- and second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 15-year-old boy. A court has since issued a $1 million warrant for his arrest.
On the night of the incident, troopers responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Eton Boulevard around 1:30 a.m. on October 25. Witnesses described the gathering as a college party, during which chaos erupted as gunfire rang out, prompting many attendees to flee the scene.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered the teenage victim outside, under a deck, with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Investigators later collected pistol magazines and shell casings from the site, indicating the use of a firearm during the tragic event.
Several witnesses placed Morgan at the party, noting that he was seen carrying a black handgun. One individual reported seeing him tuck a semi-automatic pistol into his waistband prior to the shooting. While some did not witness him fire the weapon, they recognized him as someone frequently armed.
Court documents reveal that Morgan had a prior conviction for second-degree robbery in December 2024, which prohibits him from possessing firearms. In light of this history, a warrant was initially issued for him related to misconduct involving weapons.
As investigators continue to pursue leads, they are urging anyone with information about Morgan’s whereabouts to come forward. The community remains on edge following this violent incident, highlighting concerns about gun violence and safety in local gatherings.
