San Pedro Man Arrested in Connection with Long Beach Shooting

Long Beach, California – The Long Beach Police Department has apprehended Christopher Rene Salguero, a resident of San Pedro, in connection with the shooting death of 32-year-old Long Beach resident, Johnny Santos. The shooting occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning on the 5300 block of East 2nd Street.

Salguero was taken into custody on Monday at the 1400 block of West 9th Street in San Pedro. According to the LBPD, Santos was shot in the upper body and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The preliminary investigation revealed that Santos was involved in a physical altercation with an unknown male suspect, which escalated when the suspect produced a firearm and shot him, before fleeing the scene.

The motive for the murder remains under investigation, and police did not disclose how Salguero was identified as the suspected shooter, or what may have led to the initial altercation. Salguero is facing charges of murder and discharging a firearm resulting in great bodily injury, as well as an additional charge from Riverside County. He is currently being held by the LBPD in lieu of $3.025 million bail.
