San Antonio Father, Son Shot After Online Sale Turns Violent

Police say the victims were lured to Baywell Drive before gunfire erupted.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A jewelry sale arranged online turned into a shooting June 17 when two men were ambushed during a suspected robbery on the Southwest Side, police said.

The men went to Baywell Drive near Southwest Loop 410 and Valley High Drive for what they believed was a jewelry sale. Instead, police said three suspects approached their vehicle, demanded money and opened fire. The victims, later described in reports as a father and son, were taken to a hospital.

Investigators said the meeting appeared to be a setup. Police described it as a planned robbery disguised as an online jewelry sale. At least one suspect fired into the victims’ vehicle. One of the victims was armed and shot back, police said. The older man, believed to be between 60 and 65, had several gunshot wounds. The younger man, in his 20s, was also wounded.

The shooting drew police and fire crews to the residential street shortly before 7:30 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing three people run from the area after the gunfire. Officers searched nearby streets, but the suspects were not found that night. Neighbors later said the address appeared to have been used without their knowledge.

The case shifted when police identified 18-year-old Jacob Farias Jr. as a suspect. An arrest affidavit accuses Farias of taking part in the shooting and robbery plot. Police have not released the full account of his alleged role, and they have not identified the other people believed to have been involved.

The shooting is one of several recent San Antonio cases involving violence during private sales arranged online. In April, a 19-year-old was shot in the leg during another jewelry sale on the Southwest Side after police said a suspect pulled a gun and demanded the victim’s phone.

Detectives are still working to determine who arranged the Baywell Drive meeting, who fired weapons and whether anyone was wounded among the suspects. Police have not said whether the victims knew any of the suspects before the sale was arranged.

The father and son survived, and their conditions were later described as stable. The investigation remains open as police seek the remaining suspects.
