Ranges

Cincinnati, Ohio – Over half a million electric ranges are being recalled due to safety concerns after a series of fires led to minor injuries and pet fatalities in the United States. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall alert on February 6, citing that the front-mounted knobs on certain LG ranges could pose a fire hazard if accidentally activated by humans or pets.

The affected ranges, including LG Slide-In Ranges and Freestanding Ranges with front-mounted knobs, were manufactured in Mexico and Korea. Model and serial numbers for the recalled units are located inside the oven door or storage drawer at the bottom of the oven. These ranges were sold at various retailers nationwide and online between 2015 and January 2025, priced between $1,400 and $2,650.

At least 86 incidents of unintentional knob activation have been reported, leading to over 28 fires. Some of these fires caused significant property damage exceeding $340,000. Additionally, there have been eight minor injuries, including burns, and reports of three fires resulting in pet deaths. The CPSC has advised consumers to keep children and pets away from the knobs, ensuring they are turned off before leaving the house or going to bed.

Consumers affected by the recall are urged to contact LG for a free warning label and instructions on disabling the heating elements when not in use. LG has also released an instructional video explaining the Control Lock/Lock Out feature. To check if your range is under recall and for further information, consumers can visit the designated website.

This widespread recall serves as a reminder of the importance of regularly checking household appliances for safety and taking precautions to prevent accidents or fires. It highlights the critical role that product safety commissions play in identifying and addressing potential hazards to protect consumers and their belongings. LG is working diligently to rectify the issue and ensure the safety of their customers.
