WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Authorities are expanding their investigation into a deadly park shooting that followed a planned fight among young people, as officials consider potential charges and examine how the violence unfolded.
The shooting Monday morning at Leinbach Park left two teenagers dead and five others injured, drawing a large law enforcement response and prompting scrutiny of those who may have organized or attended the gathering. Investigators say the case remains active, with questions about responsibility still unresolved.
Police said the incident began as a prearranged fight between youths who gathered at the park shortly before 10 a.m. Witnesses reported tensions escalating quickly, and by the time officers were responding to the initial disturbance, gunfire had erupted. Authorities said multiple individuals fired weapons, turning what had been a confrontation into a chaotic and deadly exchange.
When officers arrived, they encountered victims suffering from gunshot wounds and others running from the scene. Two teenage boys were pronounced dead, while five additional victims were located nearby with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening.
