Phones Spark Fatal Shooting Between Minor Brothers in Henderson, Nevada

HENDERSON, Nev. – A tragic incident in Henderson, Nevada, involving two minor brothers left the community in shock late January of this year. The Henderson Police Department revealed that an argument over phones escalated dramatically, resulting in the fatal shooting of one of the siblings.

According to police reports obtained by local media, the parents of the two brothers, identified as Jerel and Bryanna Reyes, were arrested in connection with the shooting incident. Authorities responded to the scene on Capital Gains Drive after receiving a distress call around 7:12 p.m. on January 25. The 12-year-old brother, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, was rushed to Henderson Hospital by his father before law enforcement arrived.

Tragically, despite efforts to save him, the 12-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries at Sunrise Hospital shortly after being transferred. Police investigations revealed that the shooting took place inside the family home, where multiple firearms were found unsecured and within reach of the minor children residing there.

It was uncovered that the shooting stemmed from a heated argument over phones between the 12-year-old victim and his 14-year-old brother. The older brother, who was arrested on the day of the incident and taken into custody, claimed that the shooting was accidental. However, further interviews with family members indicated a concerning lack of firearm safety practices within the household.

Both parents admitted to authorities that they allowed their minor children to carry loaded firearms around the house, citing a need for protection and security. Despite expressing remorse and acknowledging the negligence of leaving firearms unsecured, Jerel and Bryanna Reyes were both charged with child abuse and neglect. The tragic event shed light on the importance of responsible gun ownership and proper safety measures within households, particularly when minors are involved.
