PHILADELPHIA, PA – Two people were killed and four others were injured in Philadelphia’s first mass shooting of the year, which took place in the city’s Strawberry Mansion neighborhood early Sunday.
According to Philadelphia Police Department Captain Christopher Bradshaw, the incident occurred just before 1 a.m. when officers responded to the 2400 block of N. Myrtlewood Street on a report of a shooting. Three men were found at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds, and two of them, aged 53 and 41, were pronounced dead shortly after.
A 42-year-old man was also found with a gunshot wound to the hand and was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. Additionally, a 22-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man, and a 33-year-old woman, all arrived at local hospitals with gunshot wounds that police officials believe were sustained in the same incident. They were also listed in stable condition.
Bradshaw mentioned that the shooting appears to have taken place in an illegally operating speakeasy at a home along the block, and at least ten shots were fired during the incident. Currently, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting has not yet been determined. An investigation is ongoing.
