Law enforcement officials describe the scene as severe following a domestic incident.
ROFF, Okla. — A domestic dispute in Pontotoc County escalated into violence Friday when a man allegedly attacked his wife and stepson with a hatchet, leaving both injured and sending shock through the small Oklahoma town.
Authorities say deputies responded to a call reporting a violent disturbance and arrived to find two victims with significant injuries. The suspect was quickly taken into custody at the scene. Officials have not released the names of those involved, citing the ongoing investigation and the involvement of a minor.
Law enforcement officials said the attack occurred inside a residence, where evidence of a struggle was found. Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian said deputies encountered a “very violent” situation upon arrival, noting that emergency responders immediately prioritized medical care for the victims while securing the suspect.
The victims were transported to a hospital for treatment. While authorities have not provided detailed medical updates, they confirmed both individuals sustained serious injuries consistent with a sharp weapon. The stepson is believed to be under 18, though his exact age has not been disclosed.
Investigators are working to determine what led up to the attack. Officials have not said whether there were previous incidents at the home or if any warning signs had been reported prior to Friday’s events. The relationship between the suspect and victims has been confirmed as immediate family members.
The suspect was arrested without resistance and remains in custody as authorities prepare potential charges. Law enforcement indicated that charges could include serious felony counts related to assault with a dangerous weapon, though final decisions will be made in coordination with prosecutors.
Residents of Roff described the incident as deeply unsettling in a town where violent crime is uncommon. Several neighbors reported seeing flashing lights and emergency vehicles converge on the area, with officers remaining on scene for hours as they gathered evidence and documented the home.
Authorities said investigators are continuing to collect statements and review evidence to build a timeline of events. They have not ruled out additional charges depending on what is uncovered during the investigation.
Officials expect to release more details in the coming days, including court proceedings and the formal filing of charges. The case remains under investigation.
